General Information and costs of Flower Seeds at ABC wildflowers. The above areas are waste ground on edge of car park in Accrington Lancashire.
We just killed off weeds with weedkiller and scratched stones,and then
scattered seeds and left it to the elements.
Seed Mixes.
1. California Dreaming. 30grm pack. 11 species of Californian Poppies ( Eschschollzia),
with a bonus of 7 species of standard poppies (Papaver).
2. Summer Breeze. 30grm pack. All of the above Poppies plus Love in the Mist,( Nigella)
Crazy Daisy, Cornflowers, Cosmos, Coreopsis, Toadflax, Bishops flower, Baby's Breath, Purple
Tansy, Black eyed Susan, Chrysanthemum species, and many more over 30 different
flower types.
Note!
Garden centers and DIY stores tend to sell 1-3grm packs of flower seed
as an average pack size.
ABC flower seeds are up to 10 times larger (30grms) than the average packs
sold by other retail suppliers.
The seed mixes are 100% flower seeds,
with no grass seeds or carriers.
Genral Seeds Info? This is important, but don't be concerned, because everything you need to
know will be included when you recieve your seeds. Late April to early May,
being the best time to sow.The mistake most people make,and in the early trials
i include myself as well. Is that you must not sow seeds before last two weeks in April.
I never sow any seeds before May and i sow right up to the end of June.
The reason you must wait is because if you sow when it is cold and damp, sometimes
you get poor germination, and this makes for a poor display. The annuals in the mix
are extremely fast growing plants, and they can come into flower within four weeks
from sowing, so it is best to sit on your hands and be patient, and wait until May,
trust me i am a gardener!
Autumn Sowing before first frosts, will give early flowering following year,but can be a gamble with more chance of
cold damp weather which can affect germination, and species domination,Calafornian Poppies
are a good species for this, i recomend Californian Dreaming Mix. Seed Mixes.
I have developed two mixes over the last 6yrs. and mix 1. is for the poppie
lovers. With mix 2. being created for people who like a taller mixture of flowers.
The reason i selected only two mixes is because by adding the correct species in the
correct percentages of seed, i have achieved a good show of flowers no matter what the
conditions of the ground.
Poppies and cornflowers, do well on sandy soils, coreopsis, and
Californian Poppies can manage wet soils, Cosmos, and Nigella, thrive on rich fertile soils.
So it really is as easy as ABC no matter what ground just scatter evenly, and sit
and enjoy the show!
How Much! (sowing rates). The 30grm packs i supply will cover a minimum area of 10 square metres. When the seed is
spread evenly at 2 - 3 grms. per sq mt.
